The Dark-Star Returns
The Dark-Star Returns is a action combat pixel game. It features a Single player mode with 1 life. You will try and defeat 2 floors of Enemies and a 3rd floor boss fight while leveling up and gaining slightly increased stats. The Satire dialogue is supposed to be poking fun at my group of online gaming friends. It references some inside jokes from the past 10+ yrs of knowing each other.
This is my first ever Indie game project. I have 190 hours in Game Maker, with about 130 in this project over the past 2 .5 months. I obviously have a lot to learn, and a lot I'd like to be better just in this game. I feel I would learn much more trying different systems and genres and exploring my engine more, rather than just bloating a simple action roguelike game with too many things. I also have learned and read online that finished and allowing the public to play your games is the most important part of starting Game Dev.

This is awesome, and hilarious!!
Thank you!
The narrative is silly, which was quite enjoyable for me.
Now for things you could do to make it better:
-The ending crashes after I walk out of the door
-The different enemies all do the same thing, so maybe add a bit of variation on them besides just more health
-In terms of art, the pixel size ofthe human characters, torches and scenario is very different, and the pixel art is probably using a filter, so it looks blurry. Having no filter for pixel art makes pixel art games look better in general
-The unpixelated UI and font look out of place
-The main strategy for normal enemies is to run back while attacking, whichcan be satisfying but gets a bit boring after a while
Overall, I enjoyed it, so I couldn't ask more for a first project, can't wait to play your second.
Thank you for the resourceful feedback. Ill look into the crash asap and try to patch that.
I'm also going to take the screen filter overlay off, as it has comeback to be negative from more than just you. My thoughts were to just try new stuff as often as possible, and mess with as many features as i could while not getting overwhelmed.
Again, thank you for good resourceful feedback!
